Xmen Origins: Wolverine Review

Xmen Origins: Wolverine is based loosely on the movie, you start out in the jungle pre-adamantium on the hunt to find a village. As you progress you jump into present day to when the adamantium  is being placed into your body and you have to fight your way out. The story goes back and forth between making your way through the jungle and you making your way to seek revenge on Striker and Victor.

Most parts seem to follow the movie quite well, there are a few differences though such as added characters that you’ll run into and some that you’ll even fight. For example you will get the chance to take on a sentinel. Throughout the story you  come across work logs which are there to help dive you in deeper into the story. These work logs are kind of fun and they are nice little tidbits about other stuff such as other mutants Striker is hunting down. Of course if you are a huge comic book fan this probably means nothing to you and you probably will just say how wrong the story is.

So if you’ve seen the movie don’t expect to much “extra” from the story. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun though, I really enjoyed the game. I was also among the select few that actually enjoyed the movie and found it super entertaining. Was it perfect? God no but I have no problem tossing it in every now and then to be entertained. Even if you are not a fan of the story if you are a fan of the hack/slash style of gameplay then you should enjoy this game. I found it pretty cool when you take damage you actually see pieces of your skin get tore off then grow back. You can lunge at enemies, stick them to spikes on the ground or wall, light them on fire or hell just throw them off a cliff. You choose the way you want them to die.

The graphics in the game are great, nothing to call home about but not at all horrible considering the game is a couple years old they are great. Like I said it’s pretty cool to see skin and shirt ripped away as you take damage and seeing your body regenerate. While I’m sure some of you might be like “ehh why would I want to see that”. I thought it was a nice little touch to give it that Wolverine feel.

Replay value I’d say is about medium even if you are not looking to platinum or get 100% on the game it still seems like it is a easy game to just pick up and play for a weekend. I am really hoping the continue this trend of gameplay in future xmen games, I’d still love to see a Gambit game myself. We do have a Deadpool movie coming out eventually maybe we’ll get something like that which would be awesome.
