Ah Yes. World of Warcraft the MMO Juggernaut. With its latest expansion it has not only broke previous PC sales records, but it has also done something no other MMO has done before. While Successfully Catering to the most Hardcore fans blizzard has revamped the original part of World of Warcraft so that new Players and old Players alike may enjoy the new technology, graphics and hilarious quest lines in the places that started it all. Let us also not forget about the 2 new races, and various class/race combo additions, Flight in Azeroth and Archaeology.
With the release of Cataclysm; Blizzard gifted players with 2 more new races. Those races being Goblins and TeamJacob Worgen. I myself have created one of each race and tested them out and by far found the Goblins most enjoyable. Even if a lot of their humor has some play on the Jersey Shore… As for the Worgen I found the race.. unappealing and dull, but again that is just my own personal opinion.
As well as the new addition of races, shortly before Cataclysm launched Blizzard released the Major update patch which brought about all the new changes to WoW itself. In that patch we were blessed with such things as Tauren Paladins, Human Hunters (It rea
lly took this long??) and so forth. Although I myself continue to play as a Blood Elf Paladin I did consider a race Change into a Holy cow.
Archaeology.. Such a love hate relationship. If you like huge boring time sinks, or have the comfort of dual/triple/*multiple* monitors and a subscription to Netflix then its a profession you will enjoy. Of course it does offer some truly EPIC Bind of Account items although they are extremely rare.
Like every other expansion to date we are shown new zones, new quests, and new dungeons. Unlike the other expansions this is all crammed into 5 levels. I do believe blizzard handle the huge gear curve pretty well, and I found most of the new zones entertaining with the one exception of vash’jr. I seriously hate that place. My favorite would have to be the one huge tribute to Indiana Jones of a zone called Uldum. Sharing a look of Egypt with the adventuring escapades of Harrison Jones and you have yourself some hilarious quests.
Dungeons on the other hand are a totally different ball game in Cataclysm. Gone are the tanks who only stack stamina and the run and gun tactics of gathering huge pulls just to AoE them down. CC is back and its more demanding then ever on tanks, healers and DPS. Heroics are not forgiving at all, and a simple break of CC can mean complete and under devastation upon your group. Now this is a welcomed change in my book, but I see it as a double edged sword. Wrath of the Lich King was too easy yes, and it brought in a lot of money from new players often referred to as “wrathbabies” but it does not mean that you turn heroics into mini raids with a player base now overrun with people who might have never used a CC skill before to this extent. As a player who tanks/heals and has a DPS character I find myself dying alot due to CC failures. All this will become water under the bridge in the next few months as the baddies either quit or get used to CCing mobs and not breaking them. As for raids… Well tonight will be my first night as an official Core raid healer, and I’m quite excited.
Tol Barad.. Oh how you were so poorly designed.. talk about turtlefest. The only disappointment I have for Cataclysm right now would be the PVP. My battlegroup blows at it and not to mention the 2 new battle grounds are nothing but Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin redone. But to each his own, I haven’t been able to try Rated BG’s yet and Arena is something I haven’t since BC. Oh well its no harm to me.
