Deathspank Demo – Review

So at about 9:30 last night I was a bit bored and decided to check out the Playstation Network Store (or PSN) and right there on the home screen was this game called Deathspank, I thought to myself hmm I remember catching glimpses of news about this game and thought ahh what the hell lets check it out.  I could of bought it for $14.99 but I’m one of those skeptical gamer types sometimes and this just happened to be one of those times. In realty I should of just bit the bullet and picked up the game.

The game is centered around the hero Deathspank (go figure right) and his quests to help all the citizens around the world. I didn’t get to dive to deep into the story due to it just being the demo of the game but from what I gathered you were on the ultimate quest to finding a rare artifact that a witch has hidden deep into a mine. You can pick up side quests as you go on your way to getting said rare artifact. Like most RPG games these quests will help you gain levels as well as get cool items. Also along the way there is mobs that you will have to face to either complete your quest objective or just to progress cause the buggers just won’t leave you alone. This game definitely had a diablo feel to it not in atmosphere but in controls. I’ve been told it is quite similar to that of Monkey Island (which I never played).  It also reminded me of the old Bomberman type game style/play.

Demo Impressions

Seeing as it was just a demo it was quite fun and entertaining. Deathspank’s voice and demenier is that of any proud Hero in the sense that he knows he is the Hero and loves it. He kind of reminded me of Gilderoy Lockhart from the Harry Potter series except that he is actually useful. The graphics are fun for anyone(cartoony). I do plan on buying this game tonight to really dive deeper into the game. I highly recommend anyone that likes Action RPG type games to give this one a try it is well worth it.

Also for you Trophy whores out there (myself included) there are trophies in this game to give you something else to work towards. You can view the trophies here.

Worth buying: Yes

As a side note I think I’m going to start a new section and that is a Demo of the Week section. In this section myself or another editor will review a demo they tested out this week and give you their impressions. Let me know what you think about that and if that is something you would be interested in reading about on a week to week basis.
