DeathSpank Sequel Lands Next Month

DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

How funny is it that just yesterday I posted a review for DeathSpank only to be surprised by news of the sequel being released in just a few weeks. Like I mentioned in my review once you beat Lord Von Prong you head out to continue your story only to be told that it is a story for another time because the narrator is “tired”.

Dubbed DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue you carry on with your story as DeathSpank the over confident hero on his quest to greatness. Hothead Games producer Hamish Millar told Kotaku “There will be more adventure and puzzle questing in this game, but the hack and slash remains.” As well as the game being 50% longer and funnier.

Don’t believe him? Just read the plot, “A long time ago, nine mystical thongs were planned to bring balance and harmony to the universe, but when marketing got in the way, only six thongs were produced, and the result was disastrous. Granting great power to those who wear them, the thongs corrupted all those they touched—except DeathSpank. DeathSpank must find all six thongs and destroy them once and for all.”

The two DeathSpank games apparently were created at the same time, so not much of the fan feedback will be placed in the sequel. For example online-multiplayer was still not incorporated into the game though the off-line co-op will now allow the second player to alternate between two characters, conrollingthe returning Sparkles the Wizard and  ”the ninjatastic Kung Fu moves of DeathSpank’s new partner in crime, Steve.”

Sadly those of us that played the first one won’t be carrying anything over into the sequel, not a huge deal but would of been awesome.  It is also said that this time around you will get to play with guns as the game is depicted in a more modern setting

DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue will sell for the same price of $15 on PSN or XBLA. It appears no exact date has been said but will be available sometime in September. I can’t wait! Check out some of the screens from Kotaku after the break.
