Our friends over at IGN first reported this and later was released by SOE themselves to further acknowledge the truth behind it. DC Universe Online which has been in PC beta for about 2months now and in PS3 beta for less than a month has a release date of January 11th. This is after they have already delayed it from its first release date of November. Reading over some comments on other sites and talking to people who are part of the beta it sounds like there is still a lot of work and bugs in the game that need to be fixed. I’d say I’m surprised but knowing SOE it doesn’t surprise me in the least. They are well known to releasing buggy MMO’s and then never paying attention to them again or doing a complete overhaul of the whole system (can you tell I’m bitter about SWG?).
The game will retail for $59.99 on the PlayStation 3 and will run $49.99 for PC. Each game will come with a 30 day free subscription with a monthly subscription charge of $14.99. If you don’t want to pay monthly and you are on the PC you can always opt in for the lifetime subscription fee which is only $199 which by the way is non refundable (as of right now). So if you think the game will last you might get away with the $199 fee. You won’t really start saving money till after the 13 month mark so think about that a little bit as well.
IGN also had the opportunity to sit down with DC Universe Online Game Director Chris Cao – Check out that interview here.
DC Universe Online is scheduled to be released on January 11th 2011 on PS3 and PC
