Last week a rumor started getting spread around that new Lucasarts president Paul Meegan was axing the popular franchise The Force Unleashed. While the 2nd Force Unleashed still hasn’t been released yet obviously they were in the middle of making a third one already. Well not on Paul Meegan’s watch… According to the rumor Meegan came in and started cleaning house cancelling the development of The Force Unleashed 3 and will be showing the door to a number of the Force Unleashed 2 development team.
Also sources say another project has been put on hold by Meegan and developers have been told that they should “expect management and reporting changes.” Changes that appear to be related to the departure of long time LucasArts Vet (13 years) Haden Blackman. Sources have come forward to say “morale and productivity are at all-time lows” since Meegan took over. Which who can blame them.
Meegan also appears to have put a stop to all external development on LucasArts properties with BioWares The Old Republic MMO being the last to not be developed internally. LEGO Star Wars and Indy fans will most likely not see another addition since those titles were developed by Traveller’s Tales.
If all of this is indeed true… there is a lot of change on the horizon for LucasArts. While change is good sometimes destroying franchises that make you money I can’t imagine is a good idea. Lets hope they can either recover or come out with something that will show us this was a good idea.
